What is Behavol? Behavol is a liquid supplement designed to use as a tool to modify aggressive or inappropriate behaviors. The product is non-perishable and can be stored at room temperature.

Is Behavol safe? Behavol is made from safe and natural ingredients found in many food products. The product replaces alternative home remedies such as castor oil, hot-sauce, soap and other bad tasting things that cannot be used safely or consistently to validate their effectiveness.

Who is Behavol intended for? Behavol is designed for children 3-7 years old. The product is not recommended for children diagnosed with ADD/ADHD or other medical conditions, nor is it intended for children with cognitive, emotional or developmental disabilities.

Why is Behavol most effective for the 3-7 year old age group? Children in this age group are learning the boundaries of appropriate behavior. Children below the age of three may not have the maturity to understand cause and affect relationships. Children over the age of seven might believe that Behavol is a consequence or punishment rather than a learning tool.

How does Behavol work? Behavol is based upon the process that behaviors can be treated the same as other health issues: There's a product or medicine to treat the symptoms. The psychology that supports the product's success is commonly known as the Placebo Effect. When a child is told that Behavol will help stop biting, or any other behavior, the child is likely to believe and realize that expectation because of the credibility of having a product designed for this purpose. Behavol also works by creating a memorable taste experience for the child, teaching them that inappropriate behaviors can have unpleasant results. Behavol should be applied in association with an identified behavior, which should be discussed between the child and parent before application. Communication is necessary for the success of any discipline plan and many behaviors can be stopped through communication alone.

What types of behaviors can Behavol modify? Behavol can help modify behaviors that are aggressive, hurtful, dangerous or socially inappropriate such as biting, hitting, kicking and pushing. It should not be used for developmental behaviors like potty training, speech, cognitive growth, motor skills, and emotional development.

Where should Behavol be administered? Experts agree that discipline is most effective when administered in the privacy and safety of your residence where communication can be easily facilitated. It is not recommended to use Behavol in public places such as stores or restaurants. Behavol should only be administered in a controlled and secured environment. This prevents the child from running away and/or endangering himself.

What should I do if the child refuses to take Behavol? After a child gets Behavol once, it’s possible the child will resist in the future. Some suggestions for an unwilling child include:

• Talk in a calm voice and tell the child that Behavol will help him/her remember why the behavior is inappropriate

• Set the child in time-out to calm down

• Tell the child that if the behavior doesn’t happen again, Behavol won’t be necessary

What do I do after I give Behavol to my child? Upon application, some children, especially younger ones, may start crying. Older children may want to spit it out, however, that won't change the product's effectiveness. It is fine to give the child water following the application. Following are some suggestions that will increase the product's longterm benefits.

• Talk to the child in a firm and soft voice. This reassures the child you care, even though you are displeased with a specific behavior

• Be clear and matter of fact about why they got Behavol

• Use eye-to-eye contact when talking to your child

• Avoid hugs and overly consoling of the child immediately following the application

• Communicate your expectations of appropriate behavior in the future

• Tell the child you hope that Behavol helps him remember that the behavior is not acceptable

• After the child has calmed down, have him/her tell you about the behavior. Younger children may not have the verbal skills to do this. As an alternative have the child repeat your words. “No more biting.” “Biting hurts people.” “I will remember not to bite.” Having the child verbalize the behavior will increase his/her ability to remember.

• Revisit the behavior and why it is inappropriate over the next several days

Remember to use Behavol sparingly. Children have much to learn and it’s normal to make mistakes while growing up. There are many positive ways that children can learn through their mistakes. Recognize and discuss all the positive behaviors your child exhibits: sharing, putting toys away, using nice words, waiting patiently, reading books and helping out are just a few of the behaviors that you’ll want to praise and encourage each day. This builds self-esteem and encourages children to make positive behavior choices.
